Prof. J R Monroy, Hon, Chairman LACCS-UK, on behalf of
H.E. Dr Jose Enrique Castillo Barrantes, Ambassador
of Costa Rica to the Court of St. James's called to the
Heads of Mission attending the evening to come to the stage
of St, John's Smith to accompany HE the Ambassador
of Costa Rica and LACCS-UK for a photo shot.

H.E. Dr Jose Enrique Castillo Barrantes, addressing the
audiences and open the evening at the stage of St. John's
Smith Square, in a remarkable speech the Ambassador
described the rich cultural traditions of Costa Rica in
Central America, mentioning the artistic contribution of
Sofia, Corrales, Soprano, and Daniela Rodo, Pianist,
two young talented musicians. H.E. Ambassador Castillo
Barrantes's speech mentioned that the concert's aim was
to bring together the music of European and Costa Rican
composers, and that for the first time at St. John's Smith
Square, the audience had the opportunity to listen the
music of five Costa Rican composers.
Finally, the Ambassador expressed his personal recognition
to LACCS-UK FOR his permanent efforts to promote the idea
of bringing together nations of different cultures and traditions,
and especially for its cooperation to bring and to promote
the music and culture of Costa Rica in United Kingdom. |

Daniela Rodo, playing "Distancias", by Luis Monge, Costa Rica,
(b.1959). He is a composer and a pianist with studies in Mexico,
Costa Rica, Germany, and New York. He was under the tuition of
renowned musicians: Carlos E. Vargas, Karl-Heinz Diehl, Wilhelm
Killmayer, Ludwig Hoffmann and Gyorgy Sandor. |
Sofia Corrales, Soprano, performing "Luna Liberiana", Bolero by
Jesus Bonilla (1911-1999).
Maestro Jesus Bonilla was a composer of great devotion and
capacity in Costa Rica, also a conductor how was born in Santa
Cruz of Guanacaste. The Bolero was written in 1928 and premiered
on 14 February 1936. It is considered the most emblematic bolero
of the Guanacasteca province. The landscape is known as the
pampa for his unadorned and open scenery. Animal Reni
(Eulogio Porras Ramirez), poet wrote the words of "Pampa".

A successful artists performance and grandiose acclamation
by diplomats, guests and general audiences attending
the performance of Sofia Corrales, Soprano and Daniela
Rodo, Piano. Four bouquets were presented to the artists
by H.E. Dr Jose Enrique Castillo Barrantes, Ambassador of
Costa Rica, Mrs Olga Echeverria Murray, Professor J L. Sylvester,
Executive Director LACCS-UK and Professor J R Monroy,
Hon. Chairman Latin American and Caribbean Cultural
Society (LACCS-UK).

Sofia Corrales and Daniela ended the concert acclaimed by the
full house at St. John's Smith Square. |

Professor J R Monroy, Hon. Chairman LACCS-UK addressed the
audience inviting to attend the reception at the Crypt of St. John's
Smith Square.
